T-Hospital, the extension of the Turku University Hospital, was completed in December 2012. The new hospital belongs to the hospital district of southwest Finland and it is the most modern hospital building in Europe. The T-Hospital is a state-of-the-art hospital designed with an emphasis on patient-oriented approach and quality of care provided by the personnel and the management. The hospital was designed by Sweco Paatela Architects.

Sweco Industry and Talvivaara signed a multi-year co-operation agreement for all engineering disciplines as well as project services to Talvivaara mine in Sotkamo, Finland. Through the agreement Talvivaara will have Sweco’s technical expertise and services in use in the on-going development work of the production and for Sweco the co-operation still strengthens the company’s role as one of the leading engineering consultancies for the Nordic mining industries. Sweco’s strong local presence in the northern part of Finland is also an important factor in this co-operation.

The best young cellists in the world participate in the 5th International Paulo Cello Competition in Helsinki, Finland. Sweco sponsors the young cellists’ competition.

Sweco has been commissioned to procure and manage the design of the City Rail Loop, which is Helsinki’s major investment in a new commuter rail line under the city. The new railway will improve public transport in Helsinki, while at the same time relieving the national long-distance rail traffic. Sweco is commissioned by the Finnish Transport Agency and the contract is valued at EUR 3.4 million.

Sweco’s Chief Sustainability Officer Andreas Gyllenhammar presented the company’s sustainable solutions in Rio de Janeiro during the largest UN conference ever organized, the Earth Summit, on 20-22 June. On 21 June he took part in the summit as part of an international panel debate on sustainable urban planning.
