Lahti, Finland, introduced a novel waste incineration

Enriching project #15 869 of 31 000. Lahti Energia, Finnish power producing company, builds a new waste gasification plant to support power production at Kymijärvi power plant. Sweco generated environmentally sustainable energy solutions. New plant combines waste treatment with power production by great environmental performance.

Sweco has been a design and engineering partner and responsible in Lahti gasification power plant project. Our target is to develop sustainable and environmentally effective power production solutions. This project provided all that and was an especially convenient task for us.

Municipal waste–the very waste we all produce at home–is pre-sorted before delivery and then gasified in the new plant. This gas is used as fuel to produce heat and power.

Novel waste gasification process used in Lahti is first of kind in Finland and possibly in whole Europe. New technology reduces significantly the amount of harmful emissions. Waste utilization in power production contributes to sustainable development.
