New life for Vologda Paper Mill

Enriching project #4 932 of 31 000. Vologda’s paper and pulp mill in Russia was studied to modernize to fill today’s requirements and needs. Sweco executed an extensive pre-engineering study where all the alternative concepts were defined and valued – not forgetting environmental aspects - for the pulp and paper mill as well as for the power plant.

Sweco was chosen to carry out pre-engineering study for Vologda paper and pulp mill modernization especially because we provide a wide rage of professionals and always gather the best specialist team for the project. The team worked successfully and got gratitude from the client for their work and flexibility.

This project promoted sustainable development: New fibre line utilized existing machinery when reasonable. Recovery boiler for chemical recovery was well studied and optimized. Odour emissions will be reduced dramatically by a new recovery unit. Water treatment plant engineering and design used best available technology. Special attention was paid to cooling water circulation, bleaching without chlorine chemicals and water consumption minimization.

Decision to carry out basic engineering for the new mill will be made on the grounds of pre-engineering study. Environmental load per ton of product is notably smaller than before modernization.
