The architects at Sweco were awarded the challenging and prestigious task of designing the Swedish pavilion at Expo 2010. The Swedish pavilion was part of an integrated whole in which the structure and exhibit together conveyed a picture of Sweden as one of the most innovative countries in the world.  The 3,000 m2 building was located in the European section with the other Nordic countries as its closest neighbours.

In Norway, Sweco designed the pavilion in collaboration with Helen & Hard Arkitektkontor and Melvær & Lien Idé-Entreprenør. The concept was a 2,000 m2 pavilion with sustainability and long-term thinking as the central themes. The pavilion consisted of a forest of 15 large "trees" made of Norwegian glue laminated timber. The forest contained spaces for different activities and experiences. The pavilion demonstrated sustainability in the form of eco-cycle thinking, in terms of the choice of both materials and energy solutions.
