Sweco receives silver rating in EcoVadis’ sustainability assessment

Published: Dec 21, 2023

Sweco Finland has applied for the international EcoVadis sustainability classification for its own operations for the first time. Sweco has received a Silver rating and is among the top 25% companies.

“Companies have a significant impact on sustainability, both in our businesses and through our own operations. At Sweco, we have recently invested especially in promoting the green transition in our client projects, diversity and inclusion among our personnel, and monitoring our own carbon footprint. This is the first time we have applied for EcoVadis rating. Based on the Silver level recognition we have received, we are on a very good path and it is good to improve from this,” says Thomas Hietto, CEO of Sweco.

EcoVadis is one of the world’s leading sustainability assessment systems, which examines a company’s sustainability processes from the perspectives of environmental and climate sustainability, implementation of human and labour rights, ethical policies and procurement processes, and transparency.

“Regular review and sustainability assessment of corporate responsibility is very important for the sustainable development of society. In addition, many companies oblige their own business partners a certain level of sustainability assessed by a third party. I am pleased with the good ratings we have received, especially in environmental and climate sustainability, and our actions in relation to social responsibility, such as employees. We have also room for improvement, especially in procurement processes, for which we have already started development work. In the future, Sweco will also report the Scope 3 emissions of its supply chain more extensively than before and develop its supplier and subcontracting processes,” says Sweco’s CSO Iida Vakkuri.

EcoVadis’ assessment methodology is based on internationally accepted principles for corporate responsibility reporting, such as the Global Reporting (GRI) guidelines, the UN Global Combat initiative and the ISO 26000 standard. The assessment is valid for one year at a time. Sweco Finland has participated in the EcoVadis evaluation for the first time in late 2023.
