Mondo Minerals

Our long-time cooperation with Mondo Minerals was strengthened when Sweco was selected as the EPCM realiser for a talc concentration plant expansion project.

FACTS

PROJECT

The EPCM realiser for a talc concentration plant expansion

YEAR

2014-2015

BACKGROUND

Mondo Minerals is a mining company specialising in talc. It operates in Sotkamo and Vuonos in Finland as well as in Germany and the Netherlands. The primary product of Mondo Minerals, talc ore, contains nickel. In the concentration process of talc ore, both Sotkamo and the Vuonos plants produce nickel concentrate that has been transferred for further processing as is until now. The commercial value and further processing opportunities of the product are decreased by its high arsenic content.

SOLUTION

Sweco was involved in designing a new processing plant in Vuonos, which contains further processing for the by-product of talc concentration.

The concentration occurs outside in bioreactors that precipitate impurities and end product after pre-processing. The end result is a significantly more pure and valuable solid matter.

We were in charge of implementing the entire project, i.e. all different aspects of the design, purchasing and site in accordance with the EPCM implementation method.

"We are glad that our long-standing cooperation with Mondo Minerals continues. This is a significant factory investment, and designing a new process is always challenging."
Tomi Keskinen, Chief Business Officer at Sweco
