Harmful substance studies
A harmful substance study is carried out in a building before starting demolition, repair or alteration work, if the structures are suspected to contain hazardous substances.
Asbestos surveys are carried out for all buildings constructed prior to 1994.
The harmful substances that the studies look for are asbestos, PAHs, PCBs, heavy metals and oil hydrocarbons. In pipeline renovation projects, the amount of harmful substances to be removed may affect the methods and costs of the renovation. This is why it is good to carry out the studies early in the project planning stage.
