Inventory modelling<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h1>\n

Inventory models provide reliable and up-to-date initial data for renovation and demolition projects. A 3D information model created at the start of a project helps manage the whole project from the cost calculation to the phasing in the worksite. The inventory model also works as a basis for 3D visualisations, or it can be refined into a digital twin of a building to support maintenance work.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Initial data model for modernisation or alteration sites<\/h4>\n

Sometimes, there are no up-to-date drawings or 3D information models that cover the entire renovation history of existing buildings. Through <\/span>laser scanning<\/span> and other imaging techniques, point cloud materials can be compiled for modernisation and alteration sites. Based on the point cloud, an inventory model, or initial data model, can be created for the site, which will provide information on the materials\u2019 dimensions, amounts and locations.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For our clients, inventory modelling is an easy and efficient way of obtaining reliable and accurate initial data of an existing building. The preparation of an inventory model always starts with the definition of shared goals. This way, we can customise the model\u2019s content to suit the intended purpose. When the model\u2019s level of detail is sufficient, the inventory model will not contain anything unnecessary, but only relevant data for the project planners and other operators.<\/span><\/p>\n

Quality of the inventory model<\/h4>\n

For smooth progress and successful results of a construction project, the quality of the inventory model is directly proportional to the quality of the measurement data and the expertise of the inventory model\u2019s creator. This is why it is of the utmost importance to ensure that <\/span>inventory measurements<\/span> and inventory modelling have been done appropriately. When these are ensured, the model\u2019s level of detail and information content will be as agreed, and the model will serve the project goals in the best possible way. All matters relevant to the project, such as hidden structures that affect the dimensioning, will have been taken into consideration accurately.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If the inventory model is refined and updated even after the project has been completed, the 3D model will become the digital twin of the building to support its maintenance. Based on the inventory model, augmented reality (AR) or virtual reality (VR) environments can be created to assist in the user-centric design of hospital projects, for example. With the elaborate virtual model, the functionality of the facilities and multiple options of implementing them can be tested cost-efficiently.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We have also developed an inventory tool for demolition sites. The <\/span>inventory twin<\/span> helps control the demolition costs early on in a renovation or demolition project. The smart 3D model will open the project data transparently to various operators, and the results of the detrimental material survey attached to the 3D model improve risk management.
