Sweco is selected as the safety device system designer for the City Rail Link in Espoo<\/h1>\n

The City Rail Link of Espoo is a joint project of the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, the City of Espoo and the City of Kauniainen. The project is also included in the Helsinki region MAL agreement.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The City Rail Link of Espoo is a nationally significant railway project. The project enables the development of commuter train traffic in Espoo, Kauniainen, Kirkkonummi and Karjaa and long-distance traffic towards Turku in order to meet the needs of increasing passenger numbers. The City Rail Link of Espoo will be the first phase of the new high-speed rail link between Helsinki and Turku (One Hour Train).<\/p>\n

The City Rail Link is estimated to create a common commuting area for 1.5 million people. It is expected to drive the growth and urban development of Espoo\u2019s central and northern areas for a decade. Faster and smoother public transport services will support growth and development around the entire rail link.<\/p>\n

Sweco\u2019s commission includes the assessment of the design bases and functionality and feasibility of the safety device systems of the project\u2019s preceding planning phase as well as the preparation of a safety device building plan, which covers the entire City Rail Link area. The coordination of Sweco\u2019s safety device plans and other project plans is one of Sweco\u2019s key tasks.<\/p>\n

The solution ensures the operation of high-speed train services and enables safe and punctual railway traffic in the coming decades. In 2015, United Nations Member States adopted an agenda for sustainable development and set goals that guide the promotion of sustainable development until 2030. Our safety device solutions will advance the goals to build resilient infrastructures, make cities safe and take action to combat climate change,\u201d says Unit Director Mikko Rislakki<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are happy to have Sweco\u2019s experts develop the safety device systems for the City Rail Link project. With the signature of this contract, we are ready to plan the construction of the entire project. In other words, the project can now be developed comprehensively on schedule by working with all the relevant branches of engineering,\u201d says Project Manager Tommi Rosenvall<\/strong> from the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency.<\/p>\n

The rail link will reduce interruptions in railway traffic and improve the punctuality of trains between Helsinki and Turku. By improving train services and park-and-ride systems, the project reinforces urban development and land use in Espoo and Kauniainen and supports the development of efficient public transport solutions.<\/p>\n

The project aims to improve the service level of commuter and long-distance train traffic. The first step of the project is construction planning, after which the construction phase will begin.\u00a0The project will be realised between 2020 and 2028.<\/p>\n
