Sweco part of designing the second phase of Tampere tramway – important step in Tampere’s journey towards carbon neutrality by 2030<\/h1>\n

As part of Sustainable Tampere by 2030, Sweco continues in alliance with the City of Tampere, Tampere Tramway Ltd., NRC, YIT and AFRY to provide services for construction of the second phase of the new tramway in Tampere, Finland.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201dWe are extremely pleased that Sweco is part of Tampere\u2019s journey towards carbon neutrality by 2030. The decision to extend the new tramway strengthens our climate friendly transportation and sustainable urban development. The Tramway Alliance has already worked together successfully with the first phase and continuing with the same partners is important for the successful result in the second phase\u201d, says Juho Siipo<\/strong>, Director of Infra & Rail operations at Sweco Finland.<\/p>\n

Section 1, the eastbound two-branch line will become operational in August 2021. The construction of section 2, the westbound line, will take place in two stages between 2020 and 2024, the latter part being subject to the approval of a water fill permit for a new island to be built along the tramway line. The total length of the Tampere Tramway will be 24 kilometres.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe decision to continue the tramway strengthens sustainable development of public transportation in Tampere. The Tampere Tramway supports the growth and urban development in Tampere. We are very pleased to be able to cooperate with the same experienced alliance partners in the second phase,\u201d advises Pekka Sirvi\u00f6<\/strong>, Managing Director of Tampere Tramway Ltd.<\/p>\n

About 50 Sweco experts will be involved in the design of the second phase of the new tramway. Sweco is also a design partner in all ongoing tramline project alliances in Finland.<\/p>\n

Tampere City Council\u2019s decision to approve the second section of Tampere Tramway was taken on October 19 and is followed by a two week no-objection period.<\/p>\n
