Sweco wins rail assignments in Finland<\/h1>\n

Sweco wins a group of rail assignments associated with the \u201cOne Hour Train\u201d project, including detailed engineering design and electrical design of the new Kupittaa-Turku double track, the redevelopment of Turku Central Railway Station’s passenger and freight rail yard terminals, as well as the planning of the new Espoo-Salo direct rail line. The combined value of the assignments is approximately EUR 9.6 million.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The assignments, commissioned by the city of Turku, One-hour Turku Rail Link Ltd and the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, are the first milestones of the new high-speed double-track rail-link between Turku and Helsinki \u2013 the “One Hour Train” \u2013 which will shorten the travel time between Helsinki and Turku for an estimated 2.7 million passengers annually and contribute to sustainable urban development.
\nIn addition to shortened travel time, the project will also free up land in the Turku region that can be used for residential construction.
\n\u201cThis is an exciting project for us at Sweco to design station and railway connections in the heart of the third biggest urban region in Finland, where we get to work hands-on with the sustainability aspects of many engineering areas. The One Hour Train is one of Finland’s foremost infrastructure projects and we are planning long-term and cost-effective solutions that contribute to train traffic being safer and faster, and that contribute to sustainable urban development,\u201d says Jori Lehtikangas, Business Unit Director, Railway Engineering at Sweco Finland.<\/p>\n
