Sweco surveyed the comprehensive development of Espoo’s energy system<\/h1>\n

The aim of the work was to determine what the development of Espoo’s energy system enables. The work evaluated the regional economic impacts of the investments required for energy system development, emission impacts, and the investments they make possible. Additionally, the activities facilitated by energy system investments and their impact on the region’s economy and emissions were assessed. The study was commissioned by the City of Espoo, Caruna, Fortum, Fingrid, and CLC.<\/p>\n

Around one billion euros have been invested in the development of Espoo’s energy system in recent years and in the future. The development of the energy system includes investments in the electrification of district heating, the power grid, and the district heating network.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe impacts of these developments arise from both direct and indirect investments, which create various benefits. The City of Espoo has a carbon neutrality goal, along with a growing population, which necessitates the development of the energy system. The energy system is a complex entity involving many stakeholders, but its impacts on the city’s economy, emissions, and residents’ daily lives are comprehensive. Given the involvement of multiple actors, information on the overall impact of development investments is needed to support decision-making,\u201d says senior expert Leo Bergman.<\/strong><\/p>\n
