(RPC) is building a battery energy storage system (BESS) in Kalanti, Uusikaupunki. The system supports the balancing of production and consumption in the electricity network and the utilisation of renewable energy in Finland. Sweco is the owner&#8217;s engineer in the project. Renewable Power Capital is a pan-European renewables company headquartered in London, with the backing of CPP Investments.<\/p>\n<p>Construction work is underway, and the estimated completion time is in March 2026. The plant is estimated to be commissioned during summer 2026. The construction will be carried out by Suvic Oy.<\/p>\n<p>When completed, the Kalanti BESS will be one of the largest electricity storage facilities in Finland. The power of the system is approximately 50 megawatts, and the capacity is 100- megawatt hours. Energy storage is an essential part of a clean, flexible and secure electricity grid, as it provides power when the wind isn\u2019t blowing and the sun isn\u2019t shining.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Lowering emissions from energy production and simultaneously maintaining the balance and security of the Finnish electricity system is one of the major challenges of the green transition. It is great to be involved in such a significant green transition project and to do our part to support Finland&#8217;s carbon neutrality goals,&#8221; says <strong>Alvaro Vega Hernandez<\/strong>, Project Manager at RPC.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As a representative of the owner, we are extensively involved in ensuring the high-quality implementation of the project. We review the project plans and monitor the progress and safety of the project and the site. The project has utilised the expertise of Sweco&#8217;s experts in areas such as land use, structural design, electrification and electricity storage.
