Sweco’s Annual Report 2025 published<\/h1>\n

A new type of cross-assessment of climate and nature risks describes the future business environment more comprehensively than traditional scenario analyses<\/h2>\n

Sweco’s sustainability consultants have developed a new kind of cross-assessment analysis model for companies’ sustainability reporting. It will be presented as part of Sweco’s Annual Report 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In its annual reporting, Sweco has for the first time carried out a combined cross-assessment of climate and nature risks<\/a>, which brings together the TCFD and TNFD frameworks (Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures <\/em>and Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures<\/em>). The cross-review identified potential climate and nature risks to Sweco’s business operations in three different future scenarios. In addition to risks, new business opportunities were examined in different scenarios. The results can be read in Sweco’s recently published Annual Report<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Traditionally, companies have examined climate and nature risks<\/a> as separate entities in their sustainability reports and strategy work. In reality, these phenomena are significantly interlinked, and the assessment of cross-effects provides essential information for both companies’ risk management and strategic business development.<\/p>\n

“Climate change and biodiversity loss affect the operating environment of companies simultaneously and mutually reinforcing. Therefore, risks can no longer be examined in isolation. Sweco wanted to combine climate and nature risk analysis because it gives us a more accurate view of the company’s true resilience: how well we can adapt to changes, secure our operations and take advantage of new market opportunities. Cross-evaluation provides the tools to build long-term vitality, not just to meet reporting requirements. As far as we know, this has not been done much before in sustainability and strategy work,” says Iida Vakkuri<\/strong>, Chief Sustainability Officer at Sweco.<\/p>\n

Three scenarios: Sustainability, Regional Rivalry and Fossil-fueled Development<\/h2>\n

The analysis prepared for Sweco’s annual reporting includes three future scenarios \u2013 Sustainability, Regional Rivalry and Fossil-fueled Development \u2013 that Sweco uses to assess both risks and business opportunities in the short, medium and long term. The scenarios have been built taking into account global developments in climate change, drivers of biodiversity loss and planetary boundaries. The work was carried out on a Group-wide basis.<\/p>\n

Climate and nature risks<\/a> have a wide-ranging impact on markets, client needs and value chains, and at Sweco, the analysis has also revealed new business opportunities, for example, in strengthening the resilience of the built environment and industry.<\/p>\n

“Scenario work is important for companies of all sizes, not just those within the scope of CSRD. Sweco is at the heart of the development of society and people’s everyday environment. This analysis shows that when we understand possible futures, we can help clients prepare for them \u2013 and at the same time build a society that is resilient to climate and natural changes,” Vakkuri continues.<\/p>\n

The analysis process developed by Sweco serves as the basis for the company’s own risk management, and the same analysis model can also be used in the examination of clients’ climate and nature risks and in the strategic development of business.<\/p>\n
