Sweco and Technology Industries of Finland develop model for managing corporate resilience<\/h1>\n

Sweco conducted a study for Technology Industries of Finland to clarify what resilience means in practice for companies and how it can be systematically managed as part of business operations.
\n<\/strong>
\nThe study found that resilience in many companies remains closely linked to traditional risk management. At the same time, operating environments have become more uncertain, and not all risks can be identified or assessed in advance. Based on interviews with business decision-makers, a key conclusion of the work was the need for a more precise definition of resilience. Rather than attempting to anticipate all possible disruptions, the focus should be on identifying a company\u2019s most critical functions, those that must operate under all circumstances\u2014and ensuring their continuity.<\/p>\n

In the study, resilience is positioned as a complementary approach to risk management. While risk management addresses identified threats, resilience strengthens a company\u2019s ability to respond to unknown and unforeseen disruptions. Although a comprehensive risk matrix cannot be created, operational performance can be reinforced by prioritising the right areas and making resilience a structured, manageable capability.<\/p>\n

A central outcome of the study is a workbook that provides companies with a practical and accessible approach to strengthening preparedness. The workbook supports organisations in identifying critical operating conditions and developing action plans to safeguard them. It compiles a wide range of concrete measures to support preparedness, mitigate the impacts of disruptions, and enable recovery and organisational learning.<\/p>\n

\u201cCompanies do not lack awareness of risks. The challenge is the absence of a shared approach to managing preparedness in situations where future developments cannot be predicted. The key is to identify what must function at all times and ensure that these functions remain robust under unexpected conditions,\u201d says Leo Bergman,<\/strong> Project Manager, Sweco.<\/p>\n

\u201cResilience must be implemented in practice, and organisations need concrete guidance. Tested measures have now been compiled into a structured format for the first time,\u201d says Akseli Koskela<\/strong>, Director, Preparedness and Foresight, Technology Industries of Finland.<\/p>\n
