Pudasj\u00e4rvi Log Campus<\/h1>\n

Pudasj\u00e4rvi Log Campus is the largest campus made with logs in the world, and as such, an exceptional modelling target. Sweco has been involved in the structural and electrical engineering of this successful project.<\/p>\n

In August 2016, Pudasj\u00e4rvi upper secondary school and comprehensive school started their operations in a new school centre. This largest log school in the world offers a modern learning environment which is a great setting for learning and shared activities. The premises have been designed to be safe, healthy and comfortable as well as adaptable to many different purposes. Ever since the planning stages, the building has been designed based on premises that could be as open as possible and would also support shared activities between different subjects and groups.<\/p>\n

Pudasj\u00e4rvi Log Campus has been implemented with a life cycle model, and durability of the solutions has been taken into account in all design solutions. The feasibility of the wooden structures has had a large role in making the choices, without compromising functionality or architecture.<\/p>\n

Timber as frame material in such a large public venture required careful preparations, for example with regard to junction structures and installations. The implementation of the basic solution was enabled by guiding the architectural design process towards effective log structure solutions enabled by production methods. The impressive wooden structure solutions of halls and light lanterns were created in cooperation between the designers, and they are admired by all those visiting the location.<\/p>\n

The project is the first wooden construction location in Finland that was implemented with a full information model pattern. The possibilities of modelling have been utilised to an unforeseen extent, in particular in wooden construction engineering and transferring information to wooden element production.<\/p>\n

Wood construction calls for precise calculations and research. Information modelling enabled repeating the design solutions in varying situations with a good success rate. The exact electronic output data compiled for production planning with the help of information modelling enabled a flawless and smooth supply chain even within the tight delivery schedule.<\/p>\n

The Pudasj\u00e4rvi Log Campus was voted as the public\u2019s favourite in Tekla BIM Awards 2016. The public commented their choice by saying, for example, that the location\u2019s log structures had been modelled and utilised during the project\u2019s production stage, which was particularly interesting and inspiring. In addition, the information model was efficiently utilised in the location in roof truss and CLT structure production, for example, as well as in the overall daily construction work.<\/p>\n
