Kuusankoskitalo<\/h1>\n

The importance of architectural competitions has played a crucial role in the history of today’s Sweco Architects. The Kuusankoskitalo, designed by the architectural firm Brunow & Maunula, which joined Sweco in 2012 and has gained a reputation for more than 30 years, was completed in 1985 on the banks of the Kymijoki River in the center of Kuusankoski. It was Finland’s first multi-purpose buildings or cultural centers connecting many different cultural institutions, built in the 1980s especially in the cities of Eastern Finland. For designers, it was the first assignment of this scale.<\/p>\n

The controlled structuring of the rich and versatile space program into a series of interiors that open up to the courtyard and the riverside landscape represents the archetype of a Finnish public cultural building. Priority is given to the durable choice of materials, the skilful handling of natural light falling into the premises and the details that have been thoroughly studied, including the interior railings, lamps and pull-outs.<\/p>\n

Kuusankoskitalo offers versatile facilities for seminars, fairs, meetings and cultural experiences. Kuusaasali is known for its good acoustics and is a 500-seat concert hall.<\/p>\n

Known for its theatrical activities, the 200-seat semicircular Voikkaasali is an excellent venue for lectures, festive seminars and concerts. Adjacent to the halls are four meeting rooms of different sizes that can be shared.<\/p>\n

On the second floor there is a common foyer in the halls, suitable for organizing trade fairs as well as standing meals and cocktails. Art exhibitions are held in the gallery’s premises. The outdoor stage and the spacious courtyard are popular venues for performances in summer.<\/p>\n

The complex also includes a public library, a caf\u00e9-restaurant and a three-screen cinema.<\/p>\n
