New appointments in Sweco Finland’s management
Published: August 6, 2025
Sweco has made two new appointments to support the implementation of the company’s growth strategy. Ismo Tawast, who has acted as Director of the Buildings Division, has been appointed Director, Mission Critical & Export for Built Environment as of 1 September 2025. Jouni Ylhäinen has been appointed as the new Division Director and member of Sweco Finland’s Management Team, and he will start in his position at the beginning of September.
From the beginning of September, Ismo Tawast, Lic.Sc. (Tech.), will be responsible for leading export and special projects enabling growth.
“Export projects in the built environment and fast-growing business areas, such as demanding data centre projects, are significant growth areas for Sweco, where we can offer a wide range of experience and expertise both in Finland and internationally. However, the implementation of these demanding projects and the export of our expertise to international markets requires systematic leadership and good international networks, and I am excited to take on my new role in promoting this business that supports our growth strategy,” says Ismo Tawast.
Jouni Ylhäinen, M.Eng, will start as Division Director of the Buildings Division at the beginning of September. Jouni has been employed by Sweco since 2005, and his most recent position was to lead a business unit of approximately 250 experts.
“Our society is changing at an accelerating pace, and urbanisation, climate change, digitalisation and the tightening requirements of construction require increasingly multidisciplinary expertise. Sweco offers wide-ranging expertise in all areas of the built environment, and it is great to be leading this multidisciplinary group of experts as part of the wider Sweco organisation,” says Jouni Ylhäinen.
Sweco’s Buildings Division employs approximately 1,000 people in Finland. The division offers multidisciplinary technical design, consulting and expert services for all types of buildings and all phases of the life cycle, covering the special design fields of both new construction and renovation.
“Jouni has a long career at Sweco and knows both our organisation and our clients well. He has a good understanding of our business and long experience in leadership positions. Under Jouni’s leadership, we will continue to promote our growth strategy in one of our largest divisions. Ismo, on the other hand, has excellent experience and capabilities to support exports that are important for our growth as well as new fast-growing business areas, such as data center projects. This is a new and significant role with which we will advance our growth strategy and support our clients in the implementation of demanding projects,” says Thomas Hietto, Managing Director of Sweco Finland.
