Sponda Plc has commissioned an office block consisting of three buildings in the Ilmala district of Helsinki. The buildings, consisting of approximately 18,000 m² of surface area, are located on one of the most central locations in the metropolitan area and at the hub of the public transport network.
Construction started in the spring of 2014. The project was completed towards the end of 2015, when Sweco’s metropolitan area units moved to the new premises. Two parking levels were constructed underneath the six-storey office building. Sponda has the option to expand the office building entity with two more office buildings.
The Sweco building was constructed as a low-energy building in order to achieve the international LEED Gold level certificate. Sweco, acting as the commissioning consultant, structural engineer and energy and environment consultant, naturally utilised its own top expertise in developing energy efficiency and eco-friendly solutions in accordance with the principles of sustainability, which were key in designing and constructing the building. Energy calculations and simulations were utilised in every construction phase in order to ensure that the design solutions really did meet the requirements set for energy efficiency.
Well insulated windows protected from the sun, automatic lighting and ventilation as well as effective heat recovery, aim to decrease energy consumption during use. District cooling has been selected as the cooling method. The building is also being prepared for solar power systems.
In addition to energy and environment consultation, Sweco was in charge of project management, commissioning and site supervision, as well as structural engineering and building services contracting with the help of the project management model.
